You Can Speed Up Your Metabolism – True or False? Part 2

As we discussed on Friday without energy your body cannot digest the fuel you give it, move the blood around or get you off the couch to get a snack.

If you eat more food than your body needs to function you store the energy for later in the form of fat. Some foods tend to convert to fat faster than others such as those high in sugar.

We want our metabolism to be fast so that it burns the calories that we eat but also the fat that is stored. If your body is carrying excess weight the risks to our health are huge but that is for another blog.

Here are 3 ways our body burns fuel:

  1. Basal Metabolic Processes: The number of calories your body needs to exist each day and the more muscle your body has the more calories it will need to just be. If you don’t move then your muscles will atrophy as if a muscle cannot burn calories it will die.
  2. Thermic effect of food: The body uses energy to burn energy but this is a very small percentage of the caloric output everyday.
  3. Physical Activity: When we move we burn calories and the more activity we get in a day the more fuel our body will need from food and stored energy.

The only way to speed up our metabolism is to gain muscle. The only way to gain muscle is to move and the best way is to lift weights. If you don’t have any equipment at home never fear…pick up that jug of laundry detergent, fill a bucket with rocks or grab a bag of flour. Our remote coaches can help you use what you have at home to get the job done.

All the best,
