Overcoming the Fear of Modifying

Modifications to movements in a CrossFit class are common. You will often see someone in your class doing the workout of the day slightly differently than the rest of the participants. This could be for a variety of different reasons! Perhaps they hurt their knee skiing, or tweaked their back moving their couch, or perhaps one of their joints doesn’t allow for the mobility required of a certain movement. Whatever the cause, the modification given to them is allowing them to achieve the intended stimulus of the workout as closely as possible.

If you feel like you are going to be causing a disruption to the class or are nervous about asking your coach for a modification, just know that it is pretty rare that we have a class that doesn’t have at least one person who receives a slightly different workout.

The coaches at CrossFit LifeTree are well versed in coming up with a solution on the spot that will tailor to the needs of any member who comes to us asking for a modification. We have the skills and knowledge required to accommodate any request so that everyone can get a great workout on any given day.

So if you find yourself in a similar situation that won’t allow you to do the workout as it is written AND you are on the fence about whether you should go to class or not, rest assured that you will still have a great time and leave feeling better than when you came!
