Hi Lifetree Fam!
I wanted to take the time to introduce myself and let you know about some exciting news in the works!
My name is Alex Derksen, you may know me already through my wonderful fiancée– Coach Rachael. I’m also a Physiotherapist at The Athlete Centre, a Strength & Performance Coach, founder of ‘Physio Strong’, and a Weightlifting/Crossfit athlete born and raised in Brentwood Bay, BC. I have been doing Crossfit since 2015 (Caleb and Caileigh were my OG coaches), but in the last 2 years Weightlifting has stolen my heart and is now my main focus…because who doesn’t love the athleticism of putting weight over your head?!
I am passionate about empowering athletes like yourselves through movement, education, and communication, using evidence-based rehabilitation to help individuals overcome obstacles that are holding them back from reaching their goals. I am a certified ‘Clinical Athlete Provider’ who specializes in the management of athletes, designed to help athletes perform better and stay healthy longer. I am also a certified Crossfit Level 1 Trainer and a Functional Range Conditioning Mobility Specialist with further experience and credentials in pain science education, biomechanics, strength and conditioning, exercise prescription, and injury risk reduction
Dealing with pain or an injury is challenging. It can disrupt our routine, get in the way of our training, limit our social enjoyment and be as much of a hit to our identity as it is to our body. We also know how frustrating it is to find a healthcare professional that understands your sport and passion. This is why it’s important to team up with someone who walks the walk and understands your sport, lifestyle, and what it takes to do what you do, who listens to your story and makes you feel heard, who stays up to date on current research and can create an evidence-based game plan to focus on what’s important for you.
This is why Crossfit Life Tree and The Athlete Centre have teamed up to bring to you, the members, a new wellness service– Physiotherapy! Physiotherapy designed by athletes for athletes, that bridges the gap between rehab and performance. To help individuals like yourself optimize their health, wellness, and performance to reach potential not only in training but in life itself.
What you can expect
- Initial on-boarding to hear your story, discuss the injury/how it has impacted your life, and what your goals and obstacles are
- Rigorous orthopedic evaluation, assessment, and movement screen to clue us in on what we need to work on
- Exercise therapy, manual therapy, and/or mobility techniques to reduce pain and improve function
- Evidence-based education, injury reduction strategies, lifestyle/mindset management and optimization
